Solved

My California return was rejected twice with the same code: CA_CharitableContrib. Those fields are blank on the pdf copy of my return. Where is the rejection coming from?

On form CA (540) under Gifts to Charity, lines 11, 12,13 and 14 are all blank. I went back to my Federal return and made sure that charitable donations aren't there and so nothing carries over. On the page called "Charitable Cash Contributions under Cares Act" there's 125.  in the cash contribution field and I can't get that to go away. I don't know where it's coming from. What do I do about this?

Try going to your Federal return in the Deductions and Credits section.  Scroll to the bottom and click Done with Deductions.

There should be a question in the next couple of screens asking whether you made any cash contributions.  For the tax year 2021, under the Cares Act, you are allowed to claim up to $300 in cash contributions even if using the standard deduction (up to $600 if Married Filing Joint).  This may be where the $125 entry originated.

Thanks, that was it. I deleted it from there, filed again and it was accepted.
