Question

Mac TurboTax 2024 won't start

The Mac TurboTax 2024 desktop application doesn't start up correctly for me. After launching, it says the application is up-to-date, then it says no tax forms updates are required, then it prompts me to login to my Turbotax/Intuit account. I enter my credentials, but then I just get a screen with spinning blue dots.

If I quit and launch again, it hangs again with a blank screen. The AI support chatbot suggested I delete Intuit-related keys from my keychain and delete preferences from the "Library/Application Support/TurboTax 2024" folder. I did that, but the original problem recurs when I try again. I have no issues when trying to sign in to TurboTax on a web browser.

I'm running on an M2 Mac with MacOS Sequoia 15.2. Anyone else encountering this issue, and are there any workarounds?

I have the same issue.  M1 Mac MacOS Sequoia 15.2.  Bought from Costco and trying to install.  Entered my Intuit credentials and my Mac password when it asked for that...don't remember the order.  Does the check for updates...and won't go past the white screen with Cancel.  I can see the menu, but can't find anything there where I might try to put activation code that it never asked for.  Really need to get it installed to calculate my estimated payment for the 15th!  Hopefully someone can help!

I have used it with no issues starting last December, but now it's now working with the latest macOS.

I'm on MacOS 15.2 and not working for me.  Looks like you got one step further than me ... I can't even get to the screen to enter my account info to activate.

Hey everyone, there was a software update for the TurboTax application that just became available, and it appears to have fixed the problem for me. I'm now able to activate and launch successfully. Hope it works for everyone else too.

Just downloaded and updated.  It seems much happier now, for sure!  Yay!

    Still a no-go for me ... frustrating

I went to the website, downloaded Glance, went through all of the installation instructions--which are incorrect for the latest version of Safari by the way--and got the same spinning dots screen. I called customer support, the rep remoted to my screen and tried to help, but eventually told me to use another browser. I don't want to use another browser. I've used TurboTax since it first came out and never had this kind of issue with it on Macs. The website has also changed and is inferior in every way compared to other years by a wide margin. Someone couldn't leave good-enough alone. Infuriating.

Problems launching the TT App on Mac especially hanging after checking for updates; Possibly due to your TT file being stored on iCloud rather than locally on the Mac. Try launching TT by double clicking the file (on iCloud) instead of opening the App and expecting the App to find the last used file. Or try moving the file to another folder, then launching the App. It seems like pointers to files stored on iCloud can confuse TT sometimes as it expects the file to be stored locally.  see: https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/taxes/discussion/turbo-tax-2024-mac-will-not-load-under-15-2/00/3417787

Same exact issue - have spent a collective 4 hours on the phone with TT support and two hours with Apple support for both to point fingers at the other

I have not experienced this issue with my Mac. I did get the "we've hit a snag" message a few times after I first installed 2024.

Check to confirm that you have completed all necessary steps to get started in Desktop as shown in this help article.

See this help article for troubleshooting steps for Mac issues. Also, here are the minimum system requirements for using TurboTax for tax year 2024.

If you have all of the minimum system requirements, you might also try clearing your cache and cookies.  Sometimes using a different browser helps. Chrome generally works well.

    Here are some other options:

Some users have reported that moving their TurboTax files to a different folder solved their issue.

Install TurboTax again from the download file to the Applications folder. Start TurboTax from the Applications folder and let it run the updates.

Empty the Trash again. To make sure everything is working smoothly, restart your Mac again.

Check your Internet connection. Hardwired connections work best.

If after trying all of the options mentioned you still have the same problem:

See this help article for instructions on how to contact TurboTax customer support depending on which product you are using.

    Hi everyone,

OP here. I want to reiterate that for me, the issue was resolved when I updated to the latest version of the application. However, it occurs to me that others may need to make sure to clean up some additional things to make sure the application gets reset to its initial state. These were things that the Intuit AI chatbot suggested and are kind of advanced operations, so I hope you guys can manage them.

First, be sure to download and install the latest update. The application should do that on its own when you launch it. Then quit the application.

Second, open the "Keychain Access" application. It's not in your regular Applications folder, it's buried in under /System/Library/CoreServices/Applications. You can do a search (cmd-space from the finder) for "Keychain Access" to find it. Within the application, type "intuit" in the search box. You will probably see at least four items in the list. Right click each of them and select the drop-down menu item to delete them.

Third, you'll need to remove your preferences file in your hidden Library folder. In the Finder, use "Go->Go to Folder" or hit command-shift-G. Type "~/Library/Application Support" in the search box and press return. Find the folder "TurboTax 2024" and drag it to the trash. Then empty the trash.

Hopefully that will reset the application to its original state, and then the software will launch correctly the next time you open it.

If all this is too daunting, another solution is to create a new user account on your computer and try to use TurboTax from that account. You will still need to make sure to install the latest TurboTax update. Good luck everyone.

Restart Mac in Safe mode.  Then start Turbotax.
