Question

Is anyone able to fix their fed and state taxes based on the error message for form 8889? The message states to revisit to fix today 2/9, but when I try it doesn't work

one of the most common errors is when a taxpayer funds an HSA through payroll deductions (box 12 code w on their w-2) and then tries to take a deduction as if they paid personally. code W covers any employer matching contribution and anything taken out of your paycheck for the HSA. only money put in that does not come through your employer is entered where asked. other issues would include not specifying the type of HDHP coverage you had.

we have no access to your return so review the form and if needed contact support.

The bug on Form 8889 for those who applied a previous-year's excess contribution as a current-year contribution was fixed with the 2/8/2024 update, but in the process the developers introduced a bug on From 5329.  Until they fix the newly introduced bug, you won't be able to file an accurate tax return if you applied a previous-year's excess contribution as a current-year contribution.

Oh I see - do we know when it will be fixed? So that we can re-enter our info in? I checked just now and the same error message keeps coming up
