IRS rejected my 1040 return by E-File.

I'm using 2025 desktop, Home & Business, but that option is not on the drop-down selection in this discussion entry.

I am getting the error:

SH-F1040-520-01 - Schedule H (Form 1040), 'EmployerEIN' and 'EmployerNameControlTxt' must match data in the e-File database.

I am using the correct EIN.

I have checked previous years returns, and the Schedule H is completed the same way as my 2025 rejected return.

I will admit, I have no idea what the 'EmployerNameControlTxt' is, or why it's not matching my EIN. I also tried to edit the name on the form, but that created a new error, preventing TbTax from processing the return by e-File.

Does anyone have experience with this error?

Ok, so I did some more digging on the IRS site.

The Employer Name Control is typically the first four characters of the household employer's last name or business name.

How to Fix: Verify the EIN corresponds to the name on your Form SS-4 (application for EIN). If it still fails, the return may need to be paper-filed.

So, I dug up my SS-4, and the EIN was processed with my "Business Name", and my FULL name, secondarily.

I tried to change the Schedule H form where the business name is showing my name, [ TbTax inserts my name from the Form 1040 personal information]. TbTax now says I can't over-ride the business name, and will not EFile my return.

TbTax should allow the user to over-ride the entry to reflect the correct business name if that is different from the filer's personal name.

If anyone has any way to bypass the override and get the E-File to execute please let me know.

A couple things to check:

Do you have your EIN entered in the format XX-XXXXXXX and not a SSN format XXX-XX-XXXX?
Depending on how your EIN was issued the name could be causing the issue. Is your Business Name listed first on your EIN Letter? Is your business name more than four letters?
Is there any separation between your business name and full name?
When your EIN was issued it's possible they could have entered it one of a few different ways and this makes it hard to get the match so you can efile.

If your Business Name is listed first and immediately followed by your Full Name, it's possible your EIN was entered as:

First Name (Business Name) Last Name (Full Name) - in this case the name control would be the first four letters of your first name.

Ideally your Business Name was entered in the correct field, but I actually see this with individuals where Social Security mistakes a taxpayers last name as their middle name. The name control for individuals match the last four of the SSN and the first four of their last name, so if a person has no middle name and two last names, Social Security misidentifies their first last name as a middle name. To bypass the IRS matching system they have to enter only their second last name on their return.

You might have to try a couple combinations and see which one gets accepted.

The Schedule H form has my name "First Mi Last" in the business name entry -------> Right corner, my SSN

next line ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------> Business EIN (xx-xxxxxxx)

My IRS business EIN was issued under:

Business Name

Then under that : My FULL name: "First Middle Last : MBR" (MBR for partner membership)

So, Turbo Tax never asks for my business name, it just "assumes" it is my name by default, and places it in the business name entry, as it is listed in the personal information section.

TurboTax should create the Schedule H by asking for the business name. This is an obvious error on Intuit's program. I can't remember if this was my situation last year, but the Sch-H was created the same way in 2024 and 2023.

That's because a household employee is supposed to be just that - an employee of your household, or you as a person. If your business employs this person then they are supposed to be on your business tax return. The system is following the IRS rules here.
