Inability to enter 1099-R pension data into 2025 TurboTax Premier

I am unable to post my 1099-R data from pensions to the 2025 TurboTax Premier edition installed on my PC.

I get this message:  "This section is unavailable while we work on updates for recent tax law changes."

Curiously, I was able to post the entry for my social security 1099-R.

I've used TurboTax for many years and have never encountered this problem.

Thoughts?

The Form 1099-R section is estimated to be finalized for interview entry and available in TurboTax on 01/21/2026

You can use Forms mode to enter the 1099-R tax data.  Click on Forms

Click on Open Form in the upper left of the Forms mode screen

Type in 1099-R.  Click on the result to open the form.

And you didn't enter a 1099R for Social Security.  SS is on a SSA-1099.

The 2025 TurboTax software installed on my PC provides one link for entering the Social Security 1099-R, and another link for any other pension 1099-R entries.

The link to enter the Social Security data works, while the other doesn't.

This is most definitely a glitch in the software, as there should be no need to wait for the latest IRS forms just to collect the data from TurboTax users.

But the fact remains that TTX software folks indicate the software won't be ready for 1099-R forms until 21 January.  (I likely won't try until 22 Jan).

The SS forms are NOT 1099-R forms, they have an entirely different box format and are called SSA-1099 and never 1099-R.

Yes, simple entry of the data from the 1099-R forms could likely be accomplished now....BUT Unlike the SSA-1099 forms, the 1099-R forms have a bunch of required follow-up questions about QCDs amounts or whether some, or all of the $$ were transferred to another Retirement account, and thus non-taxable unless transferred to a ROTH acct  from a std account, or whether or not the RMD minimum was met....etc... Unless those follow-up questions (and any others) get recorded properly, if not dealt with properly in the software, they  can royally mess up your tax return.  Thus, no entry of the 1099-R data is being allowed until all those situations work flawlessly.   In addition, even if the IRS has the final 1099-R formats finalized, each of the Software Companies must test the transfer of the data from those forms to the IRS computers, and get approval from the IRS software folks that the data is being transferred properly to the IRS computers.

Could the TTX software folks get the 1099-R form entries working quicker...maybe maybe not.  But they have a date they expect to have them ready (21 Jan) and thus, we all wait (some aggravated...some just shrug)
