In 2017 my wife died which I reported at that time. Do I need to do anything else to transfer the right data? Will my prior data be transferred? David Cutter

I filed a joint return for 2017 with my deceased wife. What do I file for 2018?

Very sorry for the loss of your wife.  Although you were able to file a joint return for 2017, unless you still have dependent children then for 2018 you will be filing "Single."  (If you do have dependent children then for 2018 you could file as a Qualified Widower.)

It would be better to start over in a new account with a different user ID because it is very difficult to remove the information that would transfer over from a previous joint return if you start a return with a new filing status.  That does mean starting over from "scratch" instead of  being able to transfer any data over from 2017.
