If my girlfriend claimed our child, I wouldn't claim a dependent on my return correct?

Just had my first child in August, I am a little confused on the dependent situation, we are still together just not married, we've agreed to have her claim her on her return, so that means I would not put I have a dependent correct?

    That's correct. A dependent can only be claimed by one taxpayer.

    @CatinaT1 is correct, assuming your GF is the biological mother or legal guardian of the child. You can claim the child if no one else claims the child and you are the biological father or legal guardian of the child.
