If I owe taxes from a previous year, will the IRS automatically take my refund for this year?

Yes they will. If you owe federal tax from an earlier year, then your 2018 refund will be offset to pay the tax you owe. you do not have to enter anything on your 2018 tax return about that. The IRS will take care of it and send you a letter about it several weeks later.
