If my husband are still married at the end of 2016, not separated, and he carried health insurance on us both through his employer, and we file "Married but filing separately" will I be penalized on my tax filing? We will receive a larger refund if we file separately it looks like because I only made about 9K last year.

If you had legitimate health insurance (the minimum required by law) for the entire year, regardless of who paid for it, you should include yes, when asked if you had insurance for the year.  To do so, enter as follows;

  • Log into your Turbo Tax account.
  • Select Federal Taxes
  • Then select Health Insurance; then
  • Select yes

I have included a screen shot of what the screen will look like.
