There are a few reasons why the refund you received is different than what was on your originally filed return:

1. The IRS found an error in your return. You should receive a detailed letter from the IRS explaining why they made the change. You can also call them at 1-800-829-1040.

2. You paid your TurboTax fees with your refund.

3. The IRS offset your refund. Call the Treasury Offset Program (TOP): Contact the Bureau of the Fiscal Service (BFS) automated line at 1-800-304-3107. This system will instantly tell you if any federal or state agency has flagged your refund for an offset.
