I want to change my refund option before I file. How do I do this?

I initially choose to have my 2017 federal refund applied to 2018. I have not filed the 2017 return and want to only apply part of the refund to 2018 and receive the rest as a refund. How can I do this?

In order to get to that section, with your return open, click:

FEDERAL/PERSONAL tab
Other Tax Situations
Scroll to the "Additional Tax Payments" section
Click Start/Update next to "Apply refund to next year"
Click the radio button next to "Apply all or part of it toward next year's tax bill."
Click Continue and choose the amount you want applied, the remainder will be refunded
