It is a small estate, no savings, no stocks etc. Just a checking acct.

We need to know whether you're filing a final return for the deceased family member (i.e., a 1040) OR an estate income tax return (Form 1041).

Note that estates are not required to file Form 1041 unless they have gross income for the tax year of $600 or more.

It would be the final return of a small estate. No income just a checking account.

If it's just for the estate, you don't need to file a 1041 unless the estate had $600 or more in income. With no income and just a checking account, you don't need to file a 1041.

Also, if you have an online account to file your own individual income tax return using an online TurboTax product, you cannot use that same account to file a final (1040) return for your deceased family member.

Instead, you'll have to establish another online account or use a desktop version of TurboTax.

Sorry for your loss.
