Here is a link for the directions based on your TurboTax program.

Assuming you are a California resident, you may find that you don't need to file an extension.   Most of the counties in CA were granted automatic extensions to Oct 15th due to the flooding events that occurred in early 2023.   There are only five counties in CA that DID NOT receive an extension.   All the rest did.

Go the IRS website (www.irs.gov) and search for terms such as Disaster Relief or California Extensions.   The FTB in CA granted extensions that matched the Federal extension.

Both the IRS and the California FTB have extended the tax filing and payment deadlines to October 16, 2023, for California residents in counties affected by the winter flooding and mudslides. You do not have to complete either return before the October deadline. And you do NOT need to file extensions.

Please refer to the IRS: May 15 tax deadline extended to Oct. 16 for disaster area taxpayers in California, Alabama and ... and CA FTB extends filing deadline for taxpayers impacted by 2022-23 winter storms to Oct. 16, 2023 websites for more information.

Only residents who live in these seven counties have to keep the usual filing deadline of April 18, 2023:

Imperial, Kern, Lassen, Modoc, Plumas, Shasta, and Sierra.
