I always get my taxes by some one else I want to try to self prepare my taxes this year but im not sure what my taxable income from work I do for my personal costomer and I am the only person that is involved in my business that I have been doing there hair faithfully for years. I am payed privately by private partys. How do I entered on income that I received on my tax forms without w2 or a 1099

Hi Chunky_Monkey6,

If you want to report cash with no documentation, such as a W-2 or 1099-MISC,

Go into Less Common Income under Personal Income

Go to the last selection, Miscellaneous Income

Go to the last option, Other reportable income

Enter cash received and who you worked for.

This amount should be included in Line 21, Other Income on your 1040.

Thanks for choosing TurboTax

So it's okay to just write in the amount? I got cash from side jobs like cleaning and whatnot, but have no documentation for it. I made $11,000 for the whole year from different sources. I didn't see a place to write in who it was from though. Could my return not be approved for that? I'm getting nervous! Accepted on 1/20 but nothing.

Side job earnings for which you have no documentation are reportable on Schedule C.  Using a Sch C means you are self employed, rather than employed by someone else.  Your cash earnings are reportable even if you don't get a 1099, & you will pay self-employment taxes on the net earnings, which is what you have left after deducting your expenses for those odd jobs.  Reporting it this way is usually the correct way, & will count as earned income so you might qualify for earned income credit.  If you put large amounts of $ for odd jobs on line 21, Other Income, that does not count as "earned income" so you wouldn't get EIC, & the IRS might look at those numbers 1-2 years from now & notify you that you didn't report properly.

That works if self-employment was my only employment. But self-employment was a side job. I can't figure out how or where to enter that in TurboTax, i.e. how do I get TurboTax to report something on Schedule C for me?!

Can I claim my Side job as housekeeper where I made $6000 in cash in that other reportable income as well?

I worked for cash as a housekeeper, I entered my earnings as instructed but when I go to the EIC section says I dont qualify because I didnot have earned income.  What am I doing wrong?
