Question

I just got married on January 8th of 2022. Do i file for my taxes for 2021 as single or married?

No.    If you got married in 2022 you do not file as married for 2021.    For 2021 you were Single---or maybe head of household if you were supporting children or a qualified dependent.   For 2022 you can file as married---next year.

Important thing to remember ... if you are going to change your last name you must do this with SS first and then the DL , bank  and other things.   If you have not done so yet wait and start the SS process after you file.   If you already started the process you will need to wait until you get the new card in hand  AND  enough time has passed for the new into to get into the IRS system.

You were single on December 31, 2021, so, you must file as single.
