Question

I have capital gains and disposition of assets offset by carryforward losses. However, my amt calculation shows the increase in income due to the disposition of assets.

Doesn't the amt include carryforward losses and wipe out that income.

The Alternative Minimum Tax (AMT) does include capital loss carryforwards, but it requires a separate calculation (a "shadow" Schedule D) that can sometimes lead to different results than your regular tax return.  Your "cost basis" for certain assets (like Incentive Stock Options or property with accelerated depreciation) can be different for AMT than for regular tax. This results in different gain/loss amounts, which in turn creates a separate AMT capital loss carryover.
