Question

I got the first child tax credit but I’m not claiming my daughter. Why isn’t it showing that I owe the $300?

Depending on your income you might not have to pay it back.  You might be within the "safe harbor" income amount.   But you do have to enter the amount from your letter 6419 anyway.

There is a safe harbor for individuals making less than $40,000, or $60,000 for couples filing jointly.

If you make less than this and receive an overpayment of the child tax credit this year, you will not need to repay the amount.
