If I buy turbo tax and download program to my computer, I can file several returns using the program.  one for me, one for my daughter and one for my mother.   If I use turbo tax on line I must buy the program three times.  Is this statement true?

That statement is true.  If you use the Online version you need to create a new account per UserId & pay for each account, unless you qualify for the Free Edition.

The CD/Download lets you prepare unlimited returns, the first 5 returns get a free e-file.  Any returns prepared after that will have to be mailed.  The Deluxe and above versions include one free State Program, if you e-file a State return, there is a charge.  You can mail in the State to avoid the e-file charge.

Yes unfortunately that is one downside for the on-line version of TT, each return is a separate fee.

The only other downside I know about is it gives you less control at the Forms level than the desktop version.
