Question

I entered my school address instead of my home address on my return so I could receive my tax refund at school; should I have used my home address?

By school address I mean the mailroom at my college. There was no option for me to list a shipping address that was different than my main home address.

It is OK that you used your current mailing address for your tax return instead of your permanent home address.

There is one thing to keep in mind though.  If the IRS needs to contact you for any reason regarding your tax return before you file another return with a different address, the correspondence will be sent to the school address they have on file.

Keep the following information for your records in case you no longer have access to the school address before you file a return for 2016.
