I bought "home and business" but file jointly with wife. It's beginning as an individual return for me. My wife is an individual contractor in local town and I have a special needs son who is making less than $2k. Did I buy the wrong turbotax?

You bought the right TurboTax. Just keep going through the questions. After you answer some questions about yourself, you will get to a screen that asks "Were You Married?" as of December 31, 2018. When you select Married it will ask you if you want to file the return together with your spouse. Select Yes and click Continue. Then it will start asking for information about your wife.

No - TurboTax Home & Business is the correct product for you -- you will need Schedule C to report income and expenses for your wife's business. AND it can handle many other situations, like dependents.

The interview starts by asking about you, but a few screens in it will ask your filing status. When you mark married, it will ask you about your wife.
