I received a 1099-MISC from my brokerage firm and I have "Substitute payments in lieu of dividends or interest" in box 8. How do I report this? Turbo Tax thinks I am self employed and I am not.

Here are the steps to enter your 1099-MISC with Box 8:

  • Sign into your account and click "Take me to my return"
  • In the Search box (upper right of program) search '1099 misc' and click the "Jump to" link from results
  • When at the 1099-MISC screen, click My form has other info in boxes 1-18. This will open additional boxes for entry including Box 8 Substitute Payments

NOTE: Do not enter the 1099-MISC under Self-Employment, enter under Other Common Income
