how to file for a MD resident studying in NY

My daughter can still be claimed as a dependent. She is studying and working in NY. She does not need to file federal or MD taxes because of low income. She did not have federal or MD taxes withheld. However, NY taxes were withheld. How is she supposed to file? How can she get a refund for NY taxes withheld. Thank you.

She can file a New York state tax return to get the tax withheld back.

You would need to print and mail her NY return, if you do not file a federal return.

If you are using TurboTax, you can go through and enter everything and then select print my return and only mail in the NY return.
