I do not have the 2002 TurboTax Program CD that I used to create the "2002return.tax" file.

Not possible since the 2002 software needed to open a 2002 tax file has not be available for years and probably would not run on a modern computer anyway.

Even the IRS does not keep back tax return more than7 years.

You didn't save the pdf file back then?  Hope you have been saving the pdf files now.  Better open any years you can and save them now if you haven't.

You could try the TaxPrinter service to convert a .tax file to pdf at

http://www.taxprinter.com

They might be expensive and it is probably not safe to email tax returns back and forth.  They are not related to Turbo Tax.

Taxprinter say that 2002 has very limited support (if any) and as I understand is very costly.

OP could always search the web for other websites that offer this service.  the one thing OP shouldn't do is buy another 2002 cd and try to open the file.  what they'll get is probably not what they filed because updates are not available and if they filed a state return that's not available.
