How do I change my W-4 so I don’t owe taxes again?

Married, filing jointly - 1 dependent. Do we both change our W-4s? Do we both include our dependent or just one of us? How do I know how much additionally to deduct?

No, you both should not claim the same dependent on your Form W-4.  Only one of you should claim the dependent of Form W-4.

You should check box on Line 2(c) for two jobs.

How much additional to deduct?  It depends on several factors like if you have other additional income. Investment income, rental income, passive income, etc. etc. Did you have balance due this past year.  Are you expecting higher income in 2026 as compared to 2025. Depending on these factors, you may want to have Extra Withholding on line 4(c).
