I usually file by paper because I know exactly what information is sent to the IRS.
How can I find out exactly what information is sent to the IRS if I file online?

The same as if you printed and mailed, except you do not need to attach W-2's and 1099 forms with withholding.

Exactly what is transmitted to the IRS is not forms that you can read, it on only the encrypted data that is on the forms in a specification (schema)  that the IRS specifies.

@macuser_22,

Thank you for your response.

What about worksheets, supporting details etc? How can I make sure that those are not transmitted?

Only IRS specified form data is sent, not internal worksheets.    It is not possible to send data to the IRS that is not required and specified by the IRS.
