Purchased new computer since last year and installed latest Mavericks.  Purchased disc Turbotax software and when it failed to open I downloaded software from TurboTax online.   Same result.  Messages flash up for short time but not long enough to read the content.

Mavericks was OSX 10.9.   10.14 is Mojave.

if you get the message "TurboTax cannot be opened because Apple cannot check it for malicious software" then that is caused by the Apple "Gatekeeper" introduced with OS X 10.15 (Catalina).

That has nothing to do with TurboTax and will happen for any application not purchased from the Apple Store.

See this Apple article on this: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT202491

And this TurboTax help article: https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/troubleshooting/help/turbotax-for-mac-won-t-open-when-installed/00/26611

For older Mac systems when TurboTax will not open.
    See:

Be sure that System Preferences -> Security & Privacy -> General -> Allow apps downloaded from App Store and identified developers is checked.

Go to the Applications folder and select the TurboTax application in the Finder and right click with the mouse (or control click) ans select the top "open". That should force the first open. After that it should open normally.

I followed the instructions to try to open TurboTax Premier 2020 on my 2011 iMac: made sure my preferences were set to allow downloaded apps from both Apple and identified developers. But all I get is the message:

"You can’t use this version of the application “TurboTax Premier 2020” with this version of macOS.

You have macOS 10.13.6. The application requires macOS 10.14 or later."

And my 2011 iMac does not allow any further OS upgrades. So now I've paid for software that I can't return and can't use. Any more suggestions?

Call customer service for a refund.

You can still use the online version  that only requires a browser but it is only good for ONE tax return  and does not have the forms mode.

There is no single published number because it changes contently depending on the nature of the call and agent availability. Following the link below will either give a current number for you to call or take your number for a callback.

Here is a TurboTax FAQ for contacting customer support.
