Here is how to enter it:

  3. Expand/ scroll down the list and find the section called, Less Common Income.
  4. Scroll all the way down and select Miscellaneous Income, 1099-A, 1099-C.
  5. Select Other income not already reported on a Form W-2 or Form 1099
  6. Answer the first question Yes.
  7. Click Continue until you get to the page titled, Any Other Earned Income?
  8. Answer Yes and click Continue.

Hi thank you for this response. I did some research and found that I am supposed to report the income as a 1040 which is under the scholarships section not the income section. If an individual were to report this as other misc income it would over tax this specific stipend.

1040 is the name of the federal individual tax form filed, not a particular section.  Your stipend is taxable to the extent that it wasn't used for qualifying educational expenses (tuition and fees, etc). Amounts used for room and board and other living expenses are taxable.

To report this income, please follow the instructions of JulieS above.

This will report your fellowship on line 8 of your Form 1040. You will not pay Self Employment tax on this stipend.
