Glitch in Turbo Tax Premier? Dependent Care Account

I entered the wages from my w-2's, but for some reason the amount of the wages seems increased by the amount I sent aside in my Dependent Care FSA. I am not claiming my son as a dependent this year on my taxes as my wife and I are filing separately and she is claiming him, but I did pay for 1500 of qualified expenses from my dependent care account. Why is Turbo Tax adding that as income?

Or is the money coming from somewhere else?

It is adding the amount because you do not have a qualifying child in Child Care. He needs to meet the qualifications below. If you are not the custodial parent, you should not have the FSA.

Even if you can't claim your child as a dependent, he or she is treated as your qualifying person if:

    • The child either:
    • Was 12 or under or wasn't physically or mentally able to care for himself or herself
    • Received over half their support during 2019 from one or both parents, who are divorced under a decree of divorce, legally separated under a decree of separate maintenance or written separation agreement, or lived apart from July 1 through December 31 of 2019
    • You were the child's custodial parent. The custodial parent is the parent with whom the child lived for the greater number of nights in 2019. If the child was with each parent for an equal number of nights, generally the custodial parent is the parent with the higher adjusted gross income. The noncustodial parent can't treat the child as a qualifying person (and therefore, cannot claim this credit) even if that parent is entitled to claim the child as a dependent under the special rules for a child of divorced or separated parents.

He is a qualifying child in child care. My wife and I live in the same house. So he lives with us both full time. We are married filing separately. He is under 12 and it was for qualifying expenses.

We are not using more than 5k in a  dependent care fsa or more than 2500 per person.

Sorry, You can't get the Child Care Credit for Married Filing Separate but can for HOH.  But if you live together you can't file as Head of Household.

Why aren't you filing a Joint retun?  That is one of the reasons not to file separately.
