If you are being assigned single instead of qualifying widow (er) this would be because of your responses to questions asked in TurboTax.

In order to claim Qualifying Widow(er) you would need to have a dependent child and you can only claim this for the two years following your spouses death.

This means, if you did not enter a dependent or if you entered a date of your spouses death that was too long ago, you would not be eligible to claim qualifying widow(er)

If you do qualify, please go back and double check your answers in the personal info section and make sure you have your dependent child added.
