Filing Status for my adult children

I have twin 19-year old daughters that are both full time college students.  We support them financially.  They both had part time jobs in 2020.

We file our taxes married filing jointly.

Turbo Tax is calculating Daughter A as a dependent and Daughter B as not a dependent.  Daughter A made just under $4,300 in wages and  Daughter B made just over $4,300 in wages.  That seems to be the reason why.

Question...does that mean that I need to file a separate 1040 for Daughter B since she is not a dependent on our return?

Go back and check all the answers under My Info for each one. The income max doesn't matter if she is a full time student under 24.   Say she lived with you and in the US all year.

Thanks @VolvoGirl  - it looks like I am getting a $500 credit for each child that is deemed a dependent.  However, regardless of whether TT calculates the credit or not, my Federal Tax Due is not changing.  So it's almost as if it does not matter.  Perhaps I'm over some threshold where the credit does not impact anything.

Oh and about their income.  They may each need to file a tax return.

You don't include their income on your return. It would only go on their return if they are required to file one.  They don't have to file if they only have Social Security or W2 income under 12,550 but can file to get back any withholding taken out in boxes 2 or 17.  But you don't get boxes 4 or 6 back.   If they got a 1099NEC for it they do have to file a tax return for it.

To file a separate return for a dependent in the Online version you need to set up a new account separate from yours.  Online is only good for one return per account.  You can use the same email address for 5 accounts.  You can probably use the Free Edition

Be sure on the dependent return you check the box that says you can be claimed on someone else’s return.  If their only income is W2 and under 12,550 they do not have to file a return except to get back any withholding taken out.
