Domestic Partnership in California Filing Separately

Registered Domestic Partnership in California, April 2025.  Filed taxes for federal as single with separate tax returns since federally domestic partnership is not recognized.

Now for the CA State Tax, Turbo tax states to use a mock federal return to create a State return but it must be mailed and cannot be sent electronically.

If we want to file state as married filing separately do we add our income and divide it between the two of us along with the write offs for the property tax, mortgage interest, mcc tax credit?  Or are we able to have the highest income take all the write offs and have the other partner not have the write offs but file with just their income?  Confused on how to do married filing jointly as domestic partners in California.

No, since California is a community property state, all income deductions and credits must be split 50/50.  This is the main reason why to file the mock return since federal does not recognize Domestic Registered Partnerships.
