Doing Taxes After Husband Got Rental House In Divorce

My husband and I divorced in February 2023.  I retained ownership of the primary residence, and he got/moved into the rental house AFTER the current tenant moved out in August 2023.  I have always used TT to do our taxes, with the rental property being a business.  How do I address the loss of rental property, and associated income until August 2023, when using TT to do taxes?

Contact your attorney.

However, under normal circumstances, you would have tax liability for the time period you were the owner of the rental property.

Thank you.

No attorneys were involved.  I understand I am liable for the income tax for the period I was co-owner of the rental.  But how do I do this with my taxes going forward?  Before, we filed jointly, and co-owned the rental - easy.  How do I input my data now into Turbo Tax to show I no longer own part of it during the 2023 tax year?

It depends upon the agreement but if you received nothing, then you can simply convert the property to personal use in the program.

Doing so will stop depreciation and, in the subsequent tax year you can delete the property entirely.
