Question

Does our 17 year old dependent daughter have to file an 8962 with her individual tax return? My wife and I, filing married jointly, filed an 8962

No.  When asked if she received a Form 1095-A she should answer NO.  A Form 8962 cannot be completed if a Form 1095-A is not reported on a federal tax return.

Also, make sure and verify that on her tax return she has indicated that she can be claimed as a dependent.

Sorry ... but if she files a tax return AND she it on the 1095-A then she MUST enter the info from the 1095-A on her return to populate an 8962 ... failure to do so will get the return rejected for the missing form.   NOW  between her return and the parents return there has to be an allocation of the Premium Tax Credit  so if the parents took 100% then the child takes 0%.  It is just that simple ... look for the allocation question in the 1095-A entry section.
