Just driving an electric vehicle is not reported on a federal tax return.

If you purchased an electric vehicle during 2023 - whether new or used - then you may be entitled to a tax credit. There are a number of limitations for this credit to be aware of. The date that you purchased the car is most important as is how much you paid for it.

You will need to file form 8936 and if you purchased the car new then you should have received a tax form from the dealer who sold it to you that you will need in order to file for the credit.
