Question

Did anybody else provide their bank info for payment and then also be directed to the IRS website afterwards to pay, leading them to pay double what they owed?

Even after I asked the "live" AI assistant why they took my bank info if they were going to direct me to IRS.gov to pay afterwards I was told I need to go there to make payment.

If you entered your banking information and selected that the payment be made directly, then the payment information would have been sent to the IRS and the IRS would have taken the payment out directly.  TurboTax only transmits the information but does not make any bank withdrawals for taxes due on your tax return.

I would recommend checking your online account with the IRS to verify whether the payment was received and applied to your tax return or not.

Could they be directing you to pay the IRS online for the quarterly estimated payments for NEXT year?  Those would be on a 1040 ES.   Did Turbo Tax print out the 1040ES slips or a 1040V voucher?  Did it actually come out of your bank account twice?

Don't suppose you can get a screenshot of it directing you to pay on the IRS website.     Check the printout or PDF of your return; look for the federal or state cover sheet with the Turbo Tax logo. If you owed tax, it will show the payment information and how/when you decided to pay.
