College Tuition Qualified Expenses Optimization Worksheet - NY

I am completing NY State return. On the Tax Breaks for College Tuition page, I am asked "Was an undergraduate student in 2023?" (Notice that no name was provided).  When I click no, I am told that this Student doesn't qualify for Tuition Tax Breaks.  Then I click on Continue, and it takes me back to the exact same page with the exact same question - I am stuck in an infinite loop.  The College Tuition Qualified Expenses Optimization Worksheet seems to be the source of the problem - it has two rows filled out for my qualified children, then a third row has one box checked but the rest of the row is blank.  If I manually uncheck the box, it repopulates.  Help!

An errant piece of date could be to blame. Follow these steps:

    Desktop version:

    1. Delete the form
    2. Save your return while closing the program.
    3. Update the program
    4. Open
    5. Enter the information again.

    Online version:

A full or corrupted cache can cause problems in TurboTax, so sometimes you need to clear your cache (that is, remove these temporary files).

For stuck information follow these steps:

    1. Delete the form/ worksheet- if possible, see How to Delete
    2. Log out of your return and try one or more of the following:
      • Don't use Internet Explorer.
      • Clear cache and cookies,
      • Sign in using a different browser.
      • Sign in using a different device.
    3. Log back into your return.
      • Enter the information again.

I believe you are using the desktop program so you can go into Forms mode to get the program on the right track. You don't want to override information for a filed return but sometimes you can fill in a field to get the program back on track. Once on track, you can remove the override. An override in the program will void the accuracy guarantee.

I was working with the desktop version.  I think you are correct it was an errant piece of data.  Unfortunately, the steps you suggested did not get at the source data.  I went back and deleted many other forms until finally the data was rooted out.  Thanks for the suggestions!
