Claiming my son he was born may 2016 never claimed a child before and im only receiving a little over $2000 and i didnt make nearly as much in 2015 is that right?

Without knowing exactly all that is in your return I cannot confirm that it is correct. However, I would like to point out one common mistake that most people make which could cause your refund amount to be less than that what it should be. 

Go back to the Personal Info section (Click on the personal info tab on the top of the screen) and edit your dependents information. when you get to the question that asks "how many months did your dependent live with you" put "The Whole Year". Even though the child was born mid-year, for tax purposes any child born in the tax year is considered to have lived with you the whole year (even if the child was born on December 31st).
