Question

Cannot e file, says needs an update, but it is up to date

I cannot e file, TT keeps saying I need an update, but when I tell it to check for updates it says it is up to date.  I tried uninstalling and reinstalling, found a link on an Intuit help thread with a manual update .exe file that I downloaded and ran, tried e filing through my phone's hotspot instead of my router,  tried e filing just the federal return, and keep getting the same error.  This is driving me nuts.

Is there a bigger problem with people being unable to file?  Do I need to just sit and wait around for the next update and hope that fixes it?

Please try to force a manual update.  Here is a link that will help with that process:  Manual Update for TurboTax Desktop

The manual update did nothing.  I had previously tried that, along with uninstalling, reinstalling etc, driving me nuts for 2 days.  This is a known, common problem.  There is another thread on this topic - https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/taxes/discussion/your-transmission-didn-t-go-through-software-update/00/1112353

One of the things I tried was the repair tool that is an option before a full uninstall.  Tried that and got error code 1334.  I ended up contacting support, was told it's a common issue, error 1334 is common on the repair, and was given a code to use Turbo Tax online for free.  Downside was that I had to enter all of my info/do my taxes again, but e-file was successful with the online version and my returns have been accepted.

I'm having the same problem.  If I can't e-file my return, than I want my money back and I won't buy TT ever again.

See this TurboTax support FAQ on how to contact Support - https://ttlc.intuit.com/questions/3401489
To contact TurboTax customer service/support use their contact website during business hours. If the problem concerns any type of refund for fees, use the key words billing issues and do Not use the word Refund or you will get a phone number for tax refunds.

I had this same problem with CA state taxes.  This worked for me: https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/taxes/discussion/state-tax-is-not-working-on-turbotax-deluxe-2019-windows-10-amazon-purchase-solved/00/1040230

The problem was that I had old versions (2017 and 2018) installed on the same PC.  You have to completely uninstall and reinstall TurboTax, or find the key file that you can just uninstall, to force the download of the latest update.  Either that or use a different laptop / computer.  Not gonna lie, this is making me re-think whether I want to use TurboTax again next year.

I called them and they setup a download for me with an install code.  It was a completely new reinstall.  I guess they just can't put that up on their website so that anyone can grab it.  I don't know what the problem with the original is and why it can't by fixed other than downloading a brand new updated program.

Cannot efile or mail in return because Turbo Tax says it is lacking some K form document.  I have nothing to report on a K 1 form.  I think this is a Turbo Tax screw up  and not a genuine delay caused by the IRS.

    Delete the Schedule K-1

Click on Tax Tools on the left side of the online program screen

    Click on Tools

    Click on Delete a form

TURBO TAX is the WORST! i have the same issue 3 months after it was reported and they still don't know how to fix it. The first person who answered hung up when she put me on hold and the second person after 45 minutes said unfortunately you are going to have to key it all again. Then when i asked about the efiling that i already paid, he put me on hold and hung up.

Next year for the first time in 10 years i will try HR Block.

hi, last year, I couldn't e-file, so, I had printed out my taxes and mailed them in. They were processed because I had paid my due tax bill, now, I had arranged to have my filing fees removed from my tax return, so, why am I still having problems.  I've checked everything over and over again

I am getting the same problem. What a piece of garbage this software is. I will NEVER use TT again. Manual update does nothing, and I am certainly not going to enter my information again. I will get a refund and use something else next year. Bye bye TT.
