Can I link the work I have done on my taxes on the website with the desktop app that I already paid for?

I started my 2020 taxes on the website. I got to the very end and it told me I had to buy the deluxe version. I had already bought the deluxe version on Amazon. I searched for a way to add my activation key online. The TurboTax help told me I had to download the desktop app. Now I have the desktop app that I paid for, but my taxes are in the website. I can't figure out how to link to the two. There doesn't seem to be a way to log into the desktop app to continue my work.

Yes! You need to install the program on your computer and move your online return to the Desktop program. To continue in the desktop version see this…….

After you get the program installed the first thing to do before you open your tax return .tax file is to update the program and install any state programs you had. Then open your file. So you first might need to start a fake return to be able to download the state program (go to FILE - NEW).

Worked like a charm! Now, once I finish up on the desktop app, how do I make sure that my documents are still there when it is time for file next year? I save the .tax2020 file, can I just upload it on the website somehow?

No. But next year if you use the Online version you just log into the same account and it will transfer from the online version. Or you can transfer from the .tax2020 file you downloaded into the Desktop program next year.
