Question

Can a TurboTax Full Service Professional help me amend my 2021 CA State Tax Return?

I received notice from the FTB about a $9,582 non-wage withholding credit taken from an investment property sale, which I did not claim in my taxes. It seems that money has been sitting with FTB since then, and the notice instructed me to amend my CA State Tax to claim the withholding credit. I also noticed that I did not claim the expenses I had in relation to the fixing of the investment property ($50K+), and I need to have those added/amended as well.

I tried adding the service "TurboTax Full Service," but when I click it, it asks me to log in to my account and then just takes me to my dashboard, which just shows 2025 tax status (I just filed).  There is no option to upgrade or purchase that service, and when I chat with the AI assistant, it can't help, and it can't connect me to a live agent.

I want to avoid having to file the 1040-X Form myself, as I'm not confident I will do it correctly, and I would like a tax expert to guide me in providing any supporting evidence I have to obtain the best possible refund.

So, I can't purchase the service, and can't reach an agent and need help filing a 1040-X Form and amending to claim the withholding credit of $9,582 and claim the expenses I had involved in the investment (a little over $50K).

TurboTax Full Service Experts can only amend a return that they prepared.

Your Federal return can only be amended to receive a refund within three years of the date it was filed or two years from the date the tax was paid, if later. However, California has a four year statute of limitations period rather then three years like the Federal return.

Please see this help article for the steps to view, download, or print your prior year returns up to seven years back if you used TurboTax to prepare the original return.
