Can a 1098T numbers be adjusted?

my daughter just finished college and was in a nursing program with many fees and required classes like CPR and something called CNA. I read somewhere that it was recommended that they can change the numbers on the 1098T in  Turbotax?
Do I simply take the difference between box 5 and box one and deduct all these other fees that she had?

The 1098-T is only an informational document. The numbers on it are not required to be entered onto your tax return.

You claim the tuition credit, or report scholarship income, based on your own financial records, not the 1098-T. In the 1098-T screen, click on the link "What if this is not what I paid the school" underneath box 1.

If neccessary, you can just change the numbers, when you enter the 1098-T.

But, as others said, the TurboTax interview does allow you to add additional expenses .

To be a qualified educational expense, the course must be taken at an "eligible instituiton" (usually the nursing school).  For example, the CPR class would not be a qualified expense if taken at/paid to the Red Cross.

Enter the 1098-T exactly as printed. Later screens will ask you for things like monies received and education expenses incurred that were not included on the 1098-T.
