The cost of hearing aids can be included with Medical Expenses.

However, whether or not you get a deduction depends.  Your total medical expenses are reduced by 10% of your adjusted gross income (7.5% if you're 65 or older) when arriving at your total medical expense deduction.

In addition, the IRS gives everyone a standard deduction.  TurboTax will automatically use the most beneficial option between standard and itemized.

Itemized deductions include your medical expenses over the threshold, real estate taxes, state taxes paid, mortgage interest, casualty losses and other miscellaneous deductions.

The instructions below will help you enter your Medical Expenses.

If you are using TurboTax Online, except Home & Business:

         1. Click on Federal Taxes, then Deductions & Credits

         2. Check your list for Medical Expenses.  If you don't see it listed, click on Jump to full list.

         3. Scroll down to Medical and click on Show more

         4. Click on Start/Edit next to Medical Expenses

If you are using TurboTax Desktop or TurboTax Online - Home & Business Version:

         1. Click on Federal Taxes (Personal, if using Home & Business)

         2. Click on Deductions & Credits

         3. Select I'll choose what I work on

         4. Find Medical Expenses under the Medical category, click on Start/Update

If prescribed to you by a licensed medical professional, then yes. But do understand that medical expenses must meet two criteria before they will make any difference to your tax liability.

First, the total of all deductions on SCH A (not just medical) must exceed your standard deduction.

Second, until your medical deductions only exceed 2% of your AGI, those particular expenses count for nothing and will not change your tax liability.
