Am I supposed to login to turbo tax to submit my return when the IRS opens?

You complete your tax return by finishing all 3 Steps in the File section. In Step 3, to e-file your tax return, you must click on the large button labeled "Transmit my returns now".

After completing the File section and e-filing your tax return you will receive two emails from TurboTax. The first email when your tax return was transmitted and the second email when the tax return has either been accepted or rejected.

Don't know if Turbo Tax has opened yet. But when they do you can submit your return. But then it will just sit on Turbo Tax servers until the IRS starts taking them in late January. So you really shouldn't file early. A lot of people who filed early find mistakes or get more tax forms in the mail they weren't expecting and will need to amend their return, which is a hassle and you need to wait to amend until the IRS processes your original return.

Turbotax will not file for you. You must log in and click the "transmit" button.

Turbotax may allow returns to be transmitted before the IRS officially opens, depending on whether the forms you need are ready early. But it is recommended to wait, for various reasons.
