2019 tax return rejected - 8801 form update

E-filed the federal tax return yesterday and today it was rejected. TT is saying that 8801 is being reviewed for updates and I need to wait for one week. If 8801 was pending updates, why did TT let me e-file? IRS doesn’t mention any recent updates to this form. So something doesn’t look right in TT’s explanation. Has anyone else experienced the same and do you have any more information on this?

The corrected Form 8801 is expected to be release later today (Release 20). You need to check on it this weekend.

You should delete the form in your return. When a corrected form is updated it is possible for some old calculations is still in the form. Deleting the form will allow only the corrected form to be loaded.

To delete a form off of your return you need to:

    1. Select Tax Forms in the Black bar on the left side of the screen.
    2. Select Tools from the drop down menu.
    3. On the Tools Center Select Delete a form.
    4. Locate the form on the list and select Delete.
    5. You will be asked to confirm the deletion.

    @dangcc11

Form 8801 is the credit for prior year minimum tax paid, that is, if you had to pay Alternative Minimum Tax (AMT) in one year, the next year, you may be able to get a credit for part of it. See https://www.irs.gov/forms-pubs/about-form-8801

There is no IRS form 880.

You received an email from TurboTax with the rejection code and rejection message.  What does it say?

I need to input last year's AGI in order to e-file.  Turbo Tax has this information and populated the field for last year's AGI but the e-file keeps getting rejected.  Please advise.

The IRS uses your prior year AGI to combat fraud.

You can find your 2018 Adjusted Gross Income (AGI) by:

    • Looking at line 7 on page 2 of your 2018 Form 1040; or
    • You can request a transcript of your 2018 tax return from the IRS to ensure you have the right number. You can request your transcript online at the following link: Get Transcript

Check these items as well to ensure you have the correct number.  If you:

    • Filed late last year after mid-November or your return was processed after that time—try entering 0.
    • Amended your return last year—make sure you’re using the AGI from your original return, not the amended one. (If you only have a 1040X form, it’s on line 1, column A).
    • Rounded your AGI to the nearest dollar—be sure to round up when it’s 50 cents or more and down when it’s 49 cents or less.
    • Filed with your spouse last year—you and your spouse have the same 2018 AGI. (Don’t split the AGI amount or enter 0 for one of you).

Time-saving Tip: If what you entered is correct and you continue to get a reject, you won't be able to e-file. There's probably a data mismatch at the government, or some other situation beyond your control that prevents your return from being e-filed. In this case, your only option would be to print and mail in your return.

This article will give you instruction on how to print and mail your return.

My return keeps getting  rejected.  I've fixed what Turbo Tax claims is the problem, it confirms that the problem is fixed and it still gets rejected.  I paid a fee to e-file, if I have to print it out and mail it how do I get by e-file charge reversed?
