2019 tax return rejected - 8801 form update

E-filed the federal tax return yesterday and today it was rejected. TT is saying that 8801 is being reviewed for updates and I need to wait for one week. If 8801 was pending updates, why did TT let me e-file? IRS doesn’t mention any recent updates to this form. So something doesn’t look right in TT’s explanation. Has anyone else experienced the same and do you have any more information on this?

The corrected Form 8801 is expected to be release later today (Release 20). You need to check on it this weekend.

You should delete the form in your return. When a corrected form is updated it is possible for some old calculations is still in the form. Deleting the form will allow only the corrected form to be loaded.

To delete a form off of your return you need to:

    1. Select Tax Forms in the Black bar on the left side of the screen.
    2. Select Tools from the drop down menu.
    3. On the Tools Center Select Delete a form.
    4. Locate the form on the list and select Delete.
    5. You will be asked to confirm the deletion.

If your return was rejected, look for an email from turbotax@intuit.com, it will give you a brief explanation of your reject and how to update it.

If you didn't receive an email, sign in to TurboTax, select Fix my return, and you'll see your reject code and explanation.

    Hi @MayaD ,

Our email from turbotax says: "FDI_8801_ErrorHold - We are reviewing updates to Form 8801 Credit for Prior Year Minimum Tax. We expect to have the form update released by approximately March 5th, 2020."

After we log in, the instructions are: "ACTION NEEDED: Important Information About Your Federal Tax Return Your tax return now includes an updated interview question regarding Form 8801 Credit for Prior Year Minimum Tax. What do I do now? If you're using a CD or downloaded version of TurboTax: -On or after March 6th, update TurboTax (visit our Support Site if you need help updating) -Please review your answers under the topic of the Credit for AMT Paid in Prior Year in the Deduction & Credits Section.Make any corrections if prompted -E-file your return (you won't be charged for e-filing) If you're using the online version: On or after March 5th, log into your TurboTax Online account -Please review your answers under the topic of the AMT Paid in Prior Year in the Deduction & Credits Section. -Make any corrections if prompted -E-file your return (you won't be charged) We apologize for any inconvenience. Thank you for using TurboTax!"

We followed the instructions and are still getting rejected. I got rejected three times already after you sent an email saying you fixed the form. This is unacceptable.

Please follow up on this and fix it and let everyone on this thread know when you get it fixed.

    Thanks,

    Pedro

Has anyone that submitted their return with a 8801 ATM refund credit and had their federal return accepted in early March 2020 received their refund yet from the IRS?  Or is your return still in “being processed” status. I understand that this status means that it is still “being reviewed”

Yes.  Accepted, approved and refund received for both Federal and State returns.

When your return gets rejected it means something does not match the IRS records.

Look for an email from turbotax@intuit.com, It'll give you a brief explanation of your reject and how to update it.

Or, sign in to TurboTax, select Fix my return, and you'll see your reject code and explanation.
