1099-R Rollover, don't see What Did You Do With The Money From This Payer? screen,

Hi,

I performed a 60-day rollover this past year (SIMPLE IRA to Traditional IRA). I was issued a 1099-R from Vanguard for the withdrawal. When this information was entered into TurboTax, I expected to see the screen that asks "What Did You Do With The Money From This Payer?", based on https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/retirement/discussion/since-you-rolled-over-the-retirement-funds-in-a-timely-ma/01/124448/highlight/true#M9153 but I never saw it.

Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks!

Again, thanks for the additional details.  I'm at a loss for something else to try since it is working when I test it myself.

All of the questions that you shared would come up as you are leaving the Form 1099-R section as a whole, not just finishing up with that particular 1099-R.

Is this your only Form 1099-R entry, or have you entered others?  As a last resort, you might try deleting all of your 1099-R entries and enter the one for the rollover first to see if the questions come up as they should.

If that does not work, you may need further assistance from one of our phone agents.  They would have the ability to see your screen and perhaps determine the cause of the issue you are seeing.

Just in case, here is a TurboTax article with instructions for how to contact TurboTax support:  What is the TurboTax phone number?

What was the distribution code in box 7 of your Form 1099-R?  Also, was the IRA/SEP/Simple box checked on the 1099-R?

@AnnetteB6 the distribution code was 01, and the IRA/SEP/Simple box was checked

Thanks for the extra details.

Based on a test case with your distribution code and the IRA box checked, the 'what did you do with the money' question did come up for me as a follow-up question after entering the Form 1099-R.  It was the third screen after completing the Form 1099-R entry.

Try going back to the Form 1099-R summary page and edit your Form 1099-R, then continue through all the follow-up screens until you are returned back to the 1099-R summary page.  If you do not get the follow-up question this time, then delete the Form 1099-R and start it from scratch.

Use these steps to go back to that section:

  • On the top row of the TurboTax online screen, click on Search (or for CD/downloaded TurboTax locate the search box in the upper right corner)
  • This opens a box where you can type in “1099-R” (be sure to enter exactly as shown here) and click the magnifying glass (or for CD/downloaded TurboTax, click Find)
  • The search results will give you an option to “Jump to 1099-R
  • Click on the blue “Jump to 1099-R” link

Delete the 1099-R and re-enter.

Also there is no "01" distribution code.   Is it just a "1"?   Are there two codes in box 7?
