You will need to keep going through the prompt until you get to the section where it asks "Tell us which person may have qualified for a penalty exception". To go through the questions again, go to the "wage and income" section and click "review" next to the IRA section, then click continue to go through the questions again. Once you get to the "Tell us which person may have qualified..." screen, click on the pencil icon next to your name, and answer the questions accordingly.  Once you get to the part where it says "These situations may lower your tax bill" you will enter the amount you took out for qualified education expenses in the "Higher educations expenses" field.  Click continue, and that should remove your early distribution penalty.    Here's a link with additional information regarding exceptions to the early retirement distribution penalty: Are there exceptions to the early distribution penalty on an IRA?

Sounds like something got stuck. You can try these things:   Log Out Completely: Before doing anything else, click Sign Out in the TurboTax menu. Clear Cache and Cookies: This removes old, "corrupted" data that might be confusing the website. Use an Incognito (Private) Window: This is the most effective "quick fix" because it launches the browser without any saved history or extensions (like AdBlockers) that often interfere with tax forms. Check Pop-up Blockers: TurboTax often opens forms (like the 1099 PDF) or payment windows in a separate pop-up. Look at the right side of your address bar for a small icon with a "red X"—click it and select "Always allow pop-ups from Intuit." Restart the Browser: Close all open windows of your browser entirely and then reopen it.   Most TurboTax errors happen because the browser is trying to use an old "session" from a previous visit. By clearing the cache or using Incognito mode, you force the browser to establish a brand-new, secure connection with the Intuit servers.
We'd love to help you complete your tax return, but need more information. Can you please clarify your question?
Can't enter any data when I bring up Form 8949.   I'm not using any support forms.

Yes. I calculated it and entered the data separately for the 401K and the 3 IRAs. And they clearly show up that way in TurboTax that I have completed so far.   I just took a look at the federal form 5329 and it is section IX that applies to "Excess Accumulation". So it seems reasonable that when Turbo releases that form it will force the software to reveal the details of how it concluded an additional tax is due and how the amount was calculated.   Another reason I think form 5329 is relevant is because Turbo mentions within my account that it won't be available until Jan 28. That indicates that Turbo knows that form is required for my filing.

Error code 606 means you are entering an invalid license code. Did you purchase Desktop Software or Online Software? There is a difference between a License Code (for Desktop) and an Activation Code (for Online). You are trying to enter a Code for TurboTax Online in a Desktop software (or vice-versa).    Look on your box from Staples and it will distinguish between TurboTax Online and TurboTax Desktop. They are not the same software, and codes from one cannot be used in the other.     If your box is for TurboTax Online, you can activate your code to your account on this link.   If your box is for TurboTax Desktop, you can download/install your software from this link.
That depends on how complicated your taxes are as well as whether you want help in person or online or over the phone or by chat.  You have lots of options!   Get started here!

MY DEPENDENT HAD A JOB If your dependent has a W-2 for his after-school job, summer job, etc. you do not include the information on your own return. You can still claim your child as a dependent on your own return.  He/she can file his own return for a refund of some of his withheld wages from boxes 2 or 17 (he won’t get back anything for Social Security or Medicare), but MUST indicate on it that he can be claimed as a dependent on someone else’s return.  (Supervise this closely or prepare it for him!) If your dependent’s earnings were over $400 and were reported on a 1099Misc or 1099NEC then he must file a return and pay self-employment tax for Social Security and Medicare.     You might also want to use free software from the IRS Free File versions: https://apps.irs.gov/app/freeFile/

I have a new iMac, latest OS, desktop version of TurboTax 2025 (just purchased at Costco) doesn't load on it. I have tried multiple times. I have used TurboTax in the past and have not had problems.     I am on hold with TurboTax toll-free for > a half-hour.  Some other organizations will take your phone number and call you back so you don't have to waste time listening to recorded messages: Please continue to hold, Your call is important to us."    Except it really isn't.    You buy your troubles. I wish I hadn't bought TurboTax.

No scroll bar at all at the bottom of the screen, either from the get go start point in TT or when I am looking at 1099-R. Expanding or shrinking the screen does not show any lower scroll bar. There is a scroll bar on the right when looking at the various topics form the menu (W-2, 1099, etc etc) but never a lower screen scroll bar. Also the screen display is full in that there is a lot of visible screen and I would expect to see the pen and trashcan, there's plenty of display room on the screen. Thanks

Thank you so much for your detailed explanation - I'll add to "rental income".  I  used your link to again reread Vacant Property:   Vacant while listed for sale. If you sell property you held for rental purposes, you can deduct the ordinary and necessary expenses for managing, conserving, or maintaining the property until it is sold. (emphasis added)  If the property isn’t held out and available for rent while listed for sale, the expenses aren’t deductible rental expenses.   I understand that the insurance expenses is not deductible as a rental expense.  However, I did have to pay for electricity, water, propane,  etc., while repairing and cleaning the property while it was Vacant While Listed for Sale from 1/9/25 until closing.   Aren't the utilities and supplies (replace broken deadbolt, cleaning supplies, etc., part of "...managing, conserving, or maintaining ... "?    I've reviewed some other posts and although my situation is not similar in many respects - I could not have made repairs without utilities     https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/user/viewprofilepage/user-id/9621  @RobertB4444  and @Carl    Any clarification would be helpful.  Many thanks!
