Have you updated the program?   Go up to Online - Check for Updates.  You should also check if your Windows needs updating.   Try closing and re opening the program.   You have a 1099R with 759 in box 1?  What is the code in box 7 and is the little IRA box checked?   @dmertz    Oh I just remembered, when I entered my inherited IRA that has an RMD it did pop up form 5329.   I went into Forms and deleted the 5329 and it hasn’t come back.   I’ll try entering that 1099R in a test file to see if it gets created again.

My daughter received $16k in scholarships which covered all of her school expenses (tuition and room/board.) The scholarships were a mixture of Pell grants and an off campus scholarship from her job in her home state that could be used for any education expenses. In order to claim an education deduction she needs to claim $10k of the $16k as taxable income. Since she is now claiming that as income is that taxable scholarship now considered her providing her own support? Or can I still claim her as my dependent even with her claiming $10k as taxable scholarship income? She lives at home during the summer and during winter vacations.

If you need to find where to change the At Risk box on line 32  here are my old notes.  Hopefully they still work or will get you close.   Go back to your Self-Employment Income.   Click on Edit to review your business entries.   Then scroll down to Uncommon Situations, click Edit and check or uncheck the box.  If your investment is at risk, don't check the box.   You may need to delete Form 6198 if you had the box checked and are now unchecking it.     How to delete forms   You can get back to the question about your business investment being at risk by going to the Schedule C and finding the Final Details > Special Situations section (if using TurboTax Home and Business) or the Uncommon Situations section (if using TurboTax Online).     Within those sections, there will be a check-box to indicate 'I have money invested in this business that I'm not at risk of losing; that is, certain cash, property, or borrowed amounts that are protected from loss.'  Uncheck that box if your investment in your business is not at risk.

This is still an issue for tax year 2025.  I itemized Federal, and even the manual by hand math shows I have a NY deduction much greater than the standard even with income reductions.. Turbo Tax online gives me no option for the IT-196 or even to choose standard versus itemized.  The online tax experts agree and still no luck.

We cannot see you r tax return so we do not know what you entered that might be triggering an upgrade to Deluxe. HOW CAN I DOWNGRADE TO A LOWER VERSION https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/change-service-level/downgrade-lower-priced-version-turbotax-online/L2IDaMvkt_US_en_US?uid=m6ilzady     WHY DO I HAVE TO PAY?  I WANT THE FREE EDITION   The information that you can enter in Free Edition is pretty limited now.  Thanks to the tax laws that began for 2018 returns, there are no more simple Form 1040EZ or 1040A's.  Everything goes on a Form 1040 that has three extra "schedules" with it, and if you need any of those schedules, you are not able to use the Free Edition.  Using the standard deduction instead of itemizing does NOT mean you will not need any of those schedules.   If you started in the Free Edition and entered any data that required any extra forms or schedules, you have to upgrade to a paid version and if you are watching the screens carefully you are alerted to the upgrade.       TurboTax Online: Important Details about Filing Simple Form 1040 Returns If you have a simple Form 1040 return only (no forms or schedules except as needed to claim the Earned Income Tax Credit, Child Tax Credit or student loan interest), you can file for free yourself with TurboTax Free Edition, or you can file with TurboTax Live Assisted Basic at the listed price. Roughly 37% of taxpayers are eligible. Examples of situations included in a simple Form 1040 return (assuming no added tax complexity): W-2 income Interest, dividends or original issue discounts (1099-INT/1099-DIV/1099-OID) that don’t require filing a Schedule B IRS standard deduction Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) Child Tax Credit (CTC) Student loan interest deduction Taxable qualified retirement plan distributions   Examples of situations not included in a simple Form 1040 return: Itemized deductions claimed on Schedule A, like charitable contributions, medical expenses, mortgage interest and state and local tax deductions Unemployment income reported on a 1099-G Business or 1099-NEC income (often reported by those who are self-employed, gig workers or freelancers) Stock sales (including crypto investments) Income from rental property or property sales Credits, deductions and income reported on other forms or schedules        How can I see my TurboTax  fees?  https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/intuit-account-billing/review-fees-turbotax-online/L1XnIzgzg_US_en_US?uid=m682vq7k   If your TurboTax fees are higher than expected, you can reduce them by removing add-ons     (BEFORE you e-file) :   Remove Premium Services Remove MAX Defend & Restore Remove a state Remove PLUS Help & Support Remove Pay With Your Refund     Or—-Use this IRS site for other ways to file for free.  There are 8  free software versions available from the IRS Free File site   https://apps.irs.gov/app/freeFile/
