I used your EasyTXF suggestion and was able to upload it successfully!  Just had to convert the date columns to real dates...  Thanx for the information!

I have owned two houses. I am about to sell my second house, which has been my primary residence for more than five years. I plan to use the $50,000 earnings from this sale to pay for my first house, which has been rented. At the end of the year, do I have to pay tax on the $50,000 earnings?

If the e-file was rejected for duplicate use of a SSN, you will not be able to e-file.  You cannot overcome that rejection.  Your return can be filed by mail and the IRS will sort out the duplicate use of the SSN.   Someone else may have inadvertently typo'd the wrong SSN, or it could be more nefarious--someone could have claimed you or one of your dependents.   Or....this happens often.....do you have a teenager or college student who filed their own tax return and did not mark that they could be claimed as a dependent?

My husband and I will file our federal tax return using married filing jointly, but state tax return using married filing separately. I understand that I need to create a mock return of married filing separately in Turbotax to get to my State return. My question is how I should fill in the 1099 form (INT, DIV) figures in the Federal session. For example, we receive $10,000 interest income from our joint accounts and that number is reported in the 1099 form. Should I fill in half of it, $5,000? Will that present a problem due to the number not matching the 1099 form?  Or should I still fill in $10,000, assuming there is a place in TurboTax that can check if this is a joint account and TurboTax will be able to take half of it automatically while doing the state return tax?  Thanks!

TT can support only one country per 1099.  Here is a suggested workaround . This is an example of the preparation to fill out a form 1116 for taxes paid by 3 countries within a 1099-DIV. They are:  a: RIC which includes all mutual funds/ETF”s b: Canada c: United Kingdom Three fictitious 1099-DIV’s will be created.  The original 1099-DIV will be used for domestic income only. Bring up a new blank 1099-DIV.  For convenience name the payer the same as the country it represents. In this case the payer is RIC.  From the broker’s supplemental info, insert into box 1a the ordinary dividends from any and all mutual funds/ETF’s.  In box 1b, insert all qualified dividends from all mutual funds/ETF’s.  In box 7, insert the foreign tax paid from all mutual funds/ETF’s.  That completes the 1st fictitious 1099-DIV.   Bring up a 2nd blank 1099-DIV.  Name the payer Canada.  In box 1a, insert all the ordinary dividends from Canada; in box 1b all the qualified dividends from Canada and in box 7 the tax paid to Canada. That completes the 2nd fictitious 1099-DIV.   Bring up a 3rd blank 1099-DIV.  Name the payer U.K. In box 1a, insert all the ordinary dividends from the U.K.; in box 1b all the qualified dividends from the U.K.  The U.K. does not withhold taxes, but TT must see an amount in box 7 during the interview.  Insert $1.00 into box 7 and subtract $1.00 from box 7 from either of the previous fictitious 1099’s.  That completes the 3rd fictitious 1099-DIV.   On the original 1099-DIV, subtract all the foreign amounts from box 1a so that only the domestic ordinary dividends remain. Subtract all foreign amounts from box 1b so that only the domestic qualified dividends remain. Delete the amount in box 7, the foreign tax paid.   If there are more than 3 countries, TT will automatically generate additional F1116 copies as necessary If there are more than 6 countries, the screen with the header “Report foreign tax paid to XXX” will only display up to 6 payers. Additional payers are on the following screen.   I suggest using all of your actual 1099's for domestic only,  Thus all the amounts in 1a and 1b will end up being  domestic and all box 7's will be vacant.

I have this same issue and it is preventing me to e-file. My employer put money into a HSA for me when I don't have a HDHP. I marked this as excess but I am still getting an error on form 889-T box 1 asking me to select self or family for which HDHP I had. It should let me select none or at least submit this form regardless.

No, the basis and value question still comes up at the end of the retirement income interview. Please verify, that your Form 1099-R entry has the IRA/SEP/SIMPLE box checked:   Click on "Search" on the top right and type “1099-R”   Click on “Jump to 1099-R” Click "Continue" and enter the information from your 1099-R and verify the IRA/SEP/SIMPLE box is checked On the "Here's your 1099-R info" screen click "Continue" Answer "Yes" to "Any nondeductible Contributions to your IRA?" if you had any nondeductible contributions in prior years. Answer the questions about the basis from line 14 of your last filed Form 8606 and the value of all traditional, SEP, and SIMPLE IRAs   @kirkey
I live in California and ignore that screen since California doesn’t require that information. Just click continue.
Good news in that the IRS has accepted my return.   I don't believe I changed anything.  Just went through the various pages confirming the data.   Again, thank you all.
What error are you getting (can you be more specific)?  New Jersey taxes income that is not taxable at the federal level which is why the Box 1 and Box 16 amounts do not match.

A charitable donation almost never changes your tax due or refund all by itself.  First, your donation does not count "dollar for dollar"--it is calculated by a percentage based on your tax bracket.  You need a LOT of other itemized deductions like mortgage interest or property taxes, medical expense, etc. to itemize and exceed your standard deduction.     Your itemized deductions have to be more than your standard deduction before you will see a change in your tax owed or tax refund.  The deductions you enter do not necessarily count “dollar for dollar;” many of them are subject to meeting  tough thresholds—medical expenses, for example, must meet a threshold that is pretty hard to reach. (Only the amount that is MORE than 7.5% of your AGI counts)   The software program uses all the IRS rules that apply to the expenses you enter, and it tells you if you have enough to use your itemized deductions or if using the standard deduction is more advantageous for you.  Under the tax laws that have been in effect since 2018, some deductions have been capped—there is a $10,000 limit to the itemized deductions for state, local, property and sales taxes.   The standard deduction makes some of your income “tax free.”  It is not a refund.  You will see your standard or itemized deduction amount on line 12 of your 2024 Form 1040.     2024 STANDARD DEDUCTION AMOUNTS SINGLE $14,600    (65 or older/legally blind + $1950) MARRIED FILING SEPARATELY            $14,600    (65 or older/legally blind + $1550) MARRIED FILING JOINTLY $29,200    (65 or older/legally blind + $1550) HEAD OF HOUSEHOLD $21,900    (65 or older/legally blind + $1950)
