If you expect to be in CA long enough to receive mail there you can use your friend's mailing address--make sure it is the address you want the IRS to use if they have to mail you a letter or a check.   In MY INFO you are asked where you lived in 2025.  Did you choose FL?    When it asked if you made money in any other state did you say NO?   Your entry of a CA address may be triggering the appearance of a CA return form--you can delete that.   DELETE STATE https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/state-taxes/delete-state-return-turbotax-online/L8v9awRbh_US_en_US?uid=m6fb06vp

A code G in Box 7 would be correct in this situation.   If these are all truly after-tax contributions to your 401(k), that you transferred, there should be an entry in box 5 on the 1099-R.  If the amount in box 5 matches the amount in box 1, there will be no tax paid on this conversion.  You will get questions later in the TurboTax interview asking if these were after tax contributions that you transferred to a Roth and you will need to enter the amount of the after tax contributions on that screen.   Your 401(k) custodian should have tracked your after-tax contributions and reported them in box 5 - if not, you may want to call them and have the 1099-R reissued to reflect the fact that you converted after-tax contributions to a Roth 401(k).

So I used the online version of TurboTax and it did go through the process of filling out 5695.  Unfortunately, the process creates an error that caused my tax returns to be denied by IRS and State within 10 minutes or less.   There is no way to communicate with any type of "technical" support to fix the issue so I asked a turbotax CPA for some help to escalate the following problem.   Hello Michael.  Thanks for your excellent support in understanding my issue with the online version of TurboTax.  As I understand it, the desktop version can fix the error contained in my submitted tax forms, but the online version can not.  The error is occuring on form 5695 Residential Energy Credits Part II Section A item 17a, 17b, 17c and 17d.  My form that was created and submitted to the IRS and State had 17a,b,c checked as "No" and there was no address on 17d.  To qualify for the credit these boxes must be marked "Yes" and the home address input into 17d.  Question 17a and 17b is asked during the question process of the online Turbotax software.  Even if I say Yes, the system still marks it as No.  Question 17c was never asked in the process.   I do not have a desktop computer that can run the latest version of TurboTax for desktop, hence the reason I'm using the online version.  I submitted the tax forms to the IRS and State, but they were rejected within 10 minutes.  The online version did not catch the mistake.  Now the online version does catch an error, but not the correct one and I can't fix the actual error.  I spent over 3 hours yesterday with a different agent and they were also not able to fix the issue.   Can you please escalate this code issue so that an update to the online software can be made available to fix my problem.   Thanks so much for your help.

In prior years, we had to go to Other Income not already reported on a w2. So, if you get hung up trying to file, just move the location. I obviously can't try to file.

You cannot change or add anything on the return that you just e-filed, nor can you stop it.  It is too late, just like when you put an envelope in a US mailbox on the corner.  The IRS does not allow you to take it back.   If you left out a W-2, a 1099G, or a dependent, or a 1099 etc…DO NOT change your return while it is “pending.”  The changes will go nowhere.   Now you have to wait until the IRS either rejects or accepts your return.  If your return is rejected, you will be able to go into your account and make the necessary changes to your tax return and re-submit your return.     If the IRS accepts your return, however, then you have to wait longer until it has been fully processed and you have received your refund.  THEN you can prepare an amended tax return and e-file or mail  it in. You have to be able to work from that return exactly the way it was when it was e-filed originally.  You will need to use a form called a 1040X.     Meanwhile, DO NOT go in and start changing anything on your return in the system, or you will make a mess for yourself.  Sit tight and wait until you see what the IRS does with the return you just e-filed   The Form 1040X is scheduled to be available on February 19.   The date is subject to change, so check on 2-19 to see if it is ready.   Before that, do not change anything at all on your return.

Are you referring to the Dependent Information Worksheet or the Student Information Worksheet?  If you can share the error you're receiving, we'll try to help.   Here's more info on OBBB changes for 529 education spending (one takes effect for 2026, one after 7/5/2025):   529 Plan Expansions: Higher Withdrawal Limits: Starting in 2026, the annual limit for tax-free 529 withdrawals for K-12 tuition and expenses doubles from $10,000 to $20,000 per year. Expanded Eligible Expenses: For distributions after July 4, 2025, 529 funds can now cover curriculum materials, online learning tools, tutoring, standardized test fees (e.g., SAT/ACT), and dual-enrollment costs. Vocational & Credentialing: 529 funds are now eligible for workforce training, certifications (e.g., HVAC, cosmetology), and continuing education required for professional credentials. If you received a Form 1099-Q and the distribution was used entirely for qualified education expenses, you don't need to enter it in your return.   @arrainey31

We have tested transferring and entering Form 1099-R using TurboTax Home & Business but are unable to reproduce the experience you have seen. It would be helpful to have a TurboTax ".tax2025" file to test this issue further.   If you would be willing to send us a “diagnostic” file that has your “numbers” but not your personal information, please follow these instructions:    In TurboTax Desktop, open your return and go to Online in the TurboTax header. (On a Mac computer, choose Share or Help.) Choose Send Tax File to Agent. You will see a message explaining what the diagnostic copy is.  Click Send on this screen and wait for the Token number to appear. Reply to this thread with a screenshot of your Token number (this avoids Community filters for numbers with a dash) and tag (@) the Expert requesting the token from you. Please include any States that are part of your return - this is VERY important. We will then be able to see the same experience you are having. If we are able to determine the cause, we'll reply here and provide you with a resolution.

What about if you go above that 5250.00 and then they tax the taxes out on your checks.  Can you claim anything on the extra taxes that you paid in?
